Tone Deaf Jeff got his start performing raps a cappella at Utah State University’s Helicon West open mic series, as well as local venues around Logan. He would read a short story and perform a rap, which were usually met with some acclaim.
Tone Deaf Jeff had his first official debut in front of a large crowd at the SLC Nerd Poetry Slam that was part of SLC Comic-Con.
He rapped about being a wizard, debuting his nerdy style a cappella before an auditorium full of people, including two judges that ended up awarding him with scores of 9.8 and 9.9 for his rhymes (thanks ladies!!) He ended up taking 2nd place overall, and took home the sweet Spider-Man mug you see to your right as the prize for his victory. The message was clear - people liked Tone Deaf Jeff.
Tone Deaf Jeff finally crystallized when he had a live DJ accompany him at a work party. The DJ’s scratches and smooth production for Tone Deaf Jeff’s Wizard rap paired nicely, resulting in a resounding success and critical acclaim that would ultimately lead to TDJ pursuing music full time.
Tone Deaf Jeff’s next show was an intimate affair where he garnered the notice of several other local mcs for the first time.
Tone Deaf Jeff saw the chance to join SeenLoc for his Alien Baby EP tour, and couldn’t pass it up! After being forced to take a year off due to Covid, he was chomping at the bit to play another live show, and ended up creating another magical evening that has become his trademark!
